Tour Guide Guillaume

More news to come soon...but wanted to get these pictures up!

Guillaume pointing out the sites...and Jonathan making sure he has the best view he can.

Last weekend, when my parents were still here, we were treated to the Tour de Vieux Lyon by Tour Guide Guillaume. He's not in any of the guidbooks, and the tourism office can't book him for you. But we've got connections, so we were able to set Mom and Dad up with the best possible. (In all seriousness, his tour is much more interesting than the others I overheard being given by "professionals.")

The guys waiting on Mom to finish window-shopping and me to stop photo-snapping so we could move along...and into the traboules!

I won't go into the whole story because a) you just have to be here and see it yourself, b) there's no way I can tell it as well as Guillaume, c) you just have to be here and see it yourself! But here's a bit to get your imagination going in the direction we were. Throughout Vieux Lyon (the Old City) there are passageways that connect the buildings and streets, so you can walk form one part of the neighborhood to another without ever going outside!

Looking straight up from a courtyard that is part of a traboule passageway.

This one was my favorite - so beautiful!

La Tour Rose, a must-see in Vieux Lyon.

So we decided to climb up the stairs for a better look at it. (And those of you who know Jonathan also know that he tried to go all the way to the top - but there was an iron gate in the way.)

Caught in the act!

"Now if you'll follow me up these stairs, we'll see..."

"...a fantastic view of the city!"

Our tour guide Guillaume sliding down the rail. Mom watched, then she did it too - just kidding!

The street where we ate lunch after our tour.

Mom and Dad shopping for handmade sweaters at the farmer's market downtown. Too bad they weren't looking at scarves - then I could've offered my wares!

Back to our 'hood, where the petanque games are in full swing now that the sun is out....then back in...then out...
