Dinner from a sausage stand in downtown Prague...
According to the travel guides, you should avoid restaurants with menus in English in order to get an authentic experience. However, those guides were written for people live surrounded by America on all sides. We do not. So we enjoyed every bite of Americana we could: bagel sandwiches, coffee drinks to-go, Philly cheesesteaks, fountain drinks, Tex-Mex... Prague was delicious. For the record, we did also have goulash and dumplings, grilled bratwurst (see photos!) and kolache pastries. Jonathan remembers eating these pastries, made by his neighbor, so we kept an eye out for them and found some great blueberry and apricot kolaches.

...serving excellent brats and onions.
From the windows of the apartment we could see the green grass of small parks, a nice perk in a big city full of people. People who like to hang out in the parks into late at night sometimes :) Jonathan and I had no problem tuning out the noise since we're used to hearing our very lively neighborhood all night long, but for Chris and Kate and my parents it was a change from their usual.

Cathedral of Saint Vitus on the Prague Castle grounds
The downtown area was just a quick tramway ride from our apartment, which was fan-diddly-astic after loooong days of walking and exploring. Bonus point for Prague: many of the best-known sites are centrally located. That's not to say you don't hoof it a lot, but only because there's so much to see. Let me say that again. There. is. so. much. to. see. I'll be hungry for more Prague for a long time.

Les détails
Considering it's a major city and tourist magnet in the summer, I was very impressed at how clean (ie. dog poop free) Prague is.

Art admirers, Chris and Kate

The medieval astronomical clock, built in 1410.

Walking up to the Prague Castle. I love the sign for kids crossing!

Recognize the back of these heads?

View from the monastery

The square in Old Town

Ah. Travel with Mom never leaves you short of giggles.

Prague through the trees

Tramway ride, anyone? I love seeing the beautifully different languages...especially since I don't have to learn them!

Boats near the Charles Bridge

Saint Vitus

The 300-year old Prague Loreta pilgrimage site

Time for another kava break!

Kava break

Jonathan's favorite spot: the Strahov Library at the monastery. We got in just before closing time and were able to see both the theoligical and philosophical halls. For more on it, see here. (If your name rhymes with Mavid, you'd love all the history here!)

Chris and Kate leaving the monastery

Snack time! Who's hungry?

The Estates Theatre, the very site where Amadeus Mozart conducted the world premiere of Don Giovanni in 1787. Kate went to see a performance at the Estates one night. She's more cultured than the rest of us ;)

Bee-yootiful Prague

Paddleboats on the river and Charles Bridge

Street lamps

See how stretched out our arms got from carrying those heavy bags all over? Just kidding - it's a fun mirror. I know you were worried.

A beautiful shot of us in another mirror (the short-squatty one)

And a lovely photo of my parents

All of these photos are making me want to go back and get another three-country pass! And for the record, a Foodnetwork special aired today with a guy visiting Germany and eating pig knuckle-the restaurant owner said they serve up about 70 a day...I had a hard time watching him eat it.
Fantastic architectural shots! Thankful Trey was able to visit the museum and that you all got in before closing time. I can see you are enjoying some great relaxing time. What a blessing.
Fantastic photos! Have to put Prague on my list of places I want to visit...
I love how whenever there is a pic of you eating/drinking/doing anything with your hands your pinky is always in the air. So lady-like of you. It cracks me up!
I love the picture of Mrs. Flanders and her hump-back-pack.
I love the short and squatty photo because it is the only time in the near future that our bodies will resemble one another.
I really love the old clock.
I love you!
You guys make one of the cutest hobbit couples I have ever seen! Oh, and the long arms photo--I feel like that all the time (after selling our car, moving to Lyon, and now carrying EVERYTHING)!! Prague--holy moly! That's GOT to be the coolest clock I've ever seen (almost seen, that is). Incroyable! Some of your photos of Prague, from the monastery, remind me of the view from Croix Rousse (where we were acosted by all those American teenagers).
I'M enjoying your trip a lot! Again, love the photos!
And... pig knuckle?? eek! :)

Bagel sandwiches? Did you go to Bohemian Bagel? Yummy...was my favorite restaurant in Prague because those were the only bagels I saw in 3 years!
